The only youth hostel in Hohhot, it's clean and hospitable. I'd suggest taking their tours instead of going off on your own. Price wise, it's definitely more worth it.

Take both the 1day1night desert- and grassland-tour. No big tourist-camps, so you'll be with your own group as far as you can see!
