You can connect to the underground or overground without having to leave the station, so it counts as one journey, especially if you are using an Oyster pay as you go travelcard

There isn't a screen in the ticket hall to tell you when the next overground train is but once through barrier peak in the window of ticket office to the right- there is a screen in there!
